2011 Holiday Craft Fairs

So far this "Craft Fair Season" we have participated in 3 craft shows at local high schools; Overland HS, Gateway HS and Smoky Hill HS - all in Aurora, CO.  This upcoming weekend we'll be at Columbine HS in Littleton, then back to Rangeview HS on November 19th, and ending the season at Grandview HS on December 3rd.

This year was our 3rd at Overland, and was larger than I had seen in years past.  The turnout was decent and it ended up being our best show at Overland ever.  I wasn't sure what to expect at Gateway, since it was our first year there, but the show was pretty full of vendors and the turnout was pretty good.  Smoky Hill seems to be the largest show in the Aurora area, tons of vendors, tons of shoppers - just super small booth spaces!  :)  Last year our booth was pretty packed and for as many shoppers that were there, we didn't sell very much.  This year I got a corner booth space and was able to creep out a little on the end... IT HELPED SO MUCH!  The display was better, the flow of people around my items were better and I ended up selling more at that one show, than I did at the other two combined!  I was so determined to go back this year and make it the show I knew it could be, and I'm so glad it paid off :)

Linda and I will be at Columbine again together this year, it's another big show - especially for having a $1 entry fee!  I'm really excited for this show, and really hoping it turns out as good as years past.  At Rangeview HS we have a great booth space and I anticipate it being better than last year was for us, fingers crossed!  Two years ago I was a vendor at Grandview HS and LOVED their show!  So of course I was super excited to sign up for it last year, and they cancelled it.  Go figure, right?  BUT, this year that brought it back and I'm ready to rock it!  Linda and I have another good booth space and it's gonna be awesome!  So, if you're in the Denver area, stop by and pay us a visit  :)

Featured Seller - Lavender Ave

I met Jennifer through EtsyMoms, and she actually ended up being the winner of Jarrett Baby's first give away! We live only miles apart but have yet to meet, so in an effort to begin my blog features again I thought I would start with someone local - so - Jennifer Harris of Lavender Ave it is :)

Jennifer is a stay at home mom, aka Taxi Driver. She has three busy kids, 2 boys and 1 girl, ages 11, 6 and 3 1/2. Her 11 year old swims for a competitive USA swim team (watch out Michael Phelps!), and the other two have swim lessons because they want to be just like their big brother. That's a TON of pool time! Anyone else wondering what Jennifer's tan looks like??

"I learned to sew reluctantly. I liked piecing together fabric to make blankets and things for my dolls, but I didn't really want my mom to teach me how to do it. It took me a long time to see the value in what my mother was trying to teach me. Eventually, after we bought our first house, I started to really want to know how to make things. I moved on from pillows and basic curtains to sewing dresses for my niece. I loved it, and I guess the rest is history. I get a lot of satisfaction from looking around my home and knowing that I have developed the skills to make my home beautiful - and save money too!"

Her etsy shop is www.lavenderave.etsy.com, where she sells mostly pajamas and nightgowns with a few other things. She also has a custom sewing business for mostly local customers.

When not crafting and sewing some of Jennifer's hobbies are: gardening, reading, bike rides with her kids, knitting, and someday may return to her scrapbook... :) She has also been very involved with the start-up of three charter schools over the last five years and is passionate about education, and passionate about helping parents have more choice in where they send their kids to school.

You can see Jennifer's shop here: http://www.lavenderave.etsy.com
Her Blog here: http://www.mylavenderave.blogspot.com
and Her Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/mylavenderave

Thank you so much Jennifer, best of luck with your businesses!

Featured Seller: PrintXTreme!!

Don't ya just hate it when you fall out of routine and totally lose sight of something important?? Dear Blog, I am SO sorry for neglecting you! To make up for it, I offer a feature of a dear friend and fellow Etsy seller - Jaime of PrintXtreme!

Jaime is a mom of three kids, works full time and works three side businesses. Talk about busy! She started GraffiXtreme as a personal business for graphics design and started PrintXtreme in June 2009 with a fellow coworker from her full time job; they have been off and running ever since!

In her Etsy shop Jaime offers a wide variety of promotional items - their business cards are a pretty awesome deal - less than $45 for 1000 business cards (shipping included!). They also offer promotional postcards, fliers, posters, stickers and banners, oh!, and I can't forget their canvas prints!

Jaime designed and her partner printed Jarrett Baby's item tags, which have gotten great reviews, so it never hurts to ask for a custom item - the answer just may be yes!

Jaime recently made a visit to Colorado - we had a blast checking out the mountains together!
Me on the left, Jaime on the right :)

Featured Seller: Ponder and Stitch!

I met Amy of Ponder and Stitch in one of the Etsy Sellers chat rooms and asked her if I could feature her here on the Blog. She's a well known seller amongst the frequent chatters and someone I think ya'll should get to know as well!

Amy is from Woodstock, IL. If you've ever seen the movie Groundhog Day, you've seen her town! She recently purchased a home over 100 years old and has been busy with renovations, sounds like a project and a half (and I'm so glad it's her and not me!).

About a year and nine months ago Amy decided to teach herself how to sew. She got some books and hasn't looked back!

"If you've ever wanted to sew, it's never too late to start. I'm having a blast and didn't start til I was 30 years old. It's very frustrating at times, but it is so rewarding! I love being able to wear a piece of clothing I made myself."

Her favorite thing to make is the cuff bracelets, and she absolutely LOVES using vintage fabric. This is her favorite cuff right now:
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=37055874

`

Amy's goal is to have clothing in her Etsy shop this summer - once she gets a dress form she hopes to be able to accommodate all shapes and sizes.

I asked Amy for some interesting facts about her, and it's too silly to try and rewrite, so this is what I got: "I can't really think of any super-interesting things about myself. Hmm, maybe some things I can't do. I can't whistle. I can't snap my fingers. I can't swim. I can't eat cantaloupe- you couldn't PAY me to eat cantaloupe."

Be sure to check out Amy's shop at www.ponderandstitch.etsy.com OR, check out her blog here on Blogspot at: http://ponderandstitch.blogspot.com

Thank you so much Amy for allowing me to feature you on my blog and look forward to talking with you soon!

Featuring Etsy Seller: Greta's Pretty Things

I met this seller and thought she seemed pretty neat, a little different story than most of us and hopefully a fun one to read! GretasPrettyThings is derived from a burlesque stage name - Greta von Tapp.

"Greta" began performing burlesque in March 2009, in Richmond, VA, while attending college. Her routine 'gimmick' was tap dancing which she wanted to incorporate into her stage name, and VOILA! Greta von Tap was born :) She began making her own stage costumes and enjoyed creating custom pasties for her routines, as well as hair flowers and fascinators. Soon enough she began creating other pastie designs that she had no immediate use for; this is when she opened her Etsy shop, to share her pasties, fascinators, hair flowers, and other pretty accessories.

"Of all my items, pasties are definitely my favorite to make. You can do so much with them, and they're pretty unexpected as a craft item. Plus, I frequently give advice to people about how to attach them, how to twirl tassels, and so much more about burlesque in general. I love the increased interest in burlesque as an artform lately!"

Greta has been on hiatus as a performer, but I will be making her comeback in April. Anyone in the DC area can see her at the Palace of Wonders on April 2nd, with Richmond Varietease.

Check out her shop here: GretasPrettyThings.etsy.com

Jarrett Baby was featured in a treasury today!

Treasuries are a really neat feature on Etsy. Any etsian has the opportunity to make one, but only so many can be available at a time. They're a collection of 12 photos hand picked through all the sellers and all the shops to fit any kind of theme or feel, or really even just their favorites!

Today Azulado added one of Jarrett Baby's Lovey Blankets to their feature, you can see it here (for another day or two!): http://www.etsy.com/treasury_list.php?room_id=110855

Thank you for the feature!!

Featured Seller: BagsSewCute

Beverly of BagsSewCute is a stay at home mom of 2 boys. After working in the banking industry for almost 20 years a family illness prompted her to leave her career in 2004.

She learned how to sew and craft at a young age, her mom taught her to sew (she was an excellent seamstress), and her grandmother was a seamstress and all around crafter. Looking back on her childhood she remembers always making things with her grandmother; so I guess it's safe to say that sewing and crafting is in her blood, which is probably why she enjoyed it as a hobby! But as we all know times are hard right now so Beverly recently opened her etsy shop to help supplement her household income. She would really like to be able to sew full time and make this her new career!!

Her shop includes lots of different things but she started making bags in Sept. '08. Her then 11 year old came up with the name BagsSewCute! www.bagsewcute.etsy.com

Be sure to check out Beverly's shop, mark it as a favorite and spread the word. Moms helping Moms! :)
